Biography

Dr. Denis Murphy holds a Government of Ireland Research Fellowship in the Department of Film, School of Creative Arts. He is completing research on the labour history of screen production in Ireland, 1958-2020, funded by the Irish Research Council. He joined the School of Creative Arts in 2018 as a field researcher on the Ecologies of Cultural Production project funded by Creative Ireland. Denis is a graduate of Dublin City University (BA Communications, MA Film and Television Studies), and also holds a doctorate from DCU for research on the labour history of film and television drama production in Ireland. Before joining TCD, he worked as a lecturer at Maynooth University's Department of Media Studies (2016-2018). Prior to entering the academic world, Denis worked in video editing, cable TV promotion, news promotion, corporate multimedia, motion graphics production, and television advertising. He has also worked on several short films, editing 'Right Now Ladies and Gents' (2004), and co-producing/co-directing and editing the short documentary 'The Bookbinder's Daughter' (2011).
