Welcome to the Department of Music

The Music Department fosters cutting-edge research and supports an intellectually vibrant musical community. We see scholarship and practice as deeply intertwined. Regular colloquia, concerts, conferences, and festivals benefit from our location in the heart of Dublin. Responding to Trinity’s increasingly global role, the department is developing modules that address non-European as well as vernacular musics. Partnerships with various music industry pioneers allows the M.Phil in Music and Media Technologies (co-hosted by Music and the School of Engineering), the Music Composition Centre (which offers an M.Phil in Composition), and Trinity’s Innovation Academy to provide a platform for new work in Music Technology and Composition. The department’s interdisciplinary approach allows connections with other areas of study within the School and beyond. Students come from a variety of performance and non-performance backgrounds; they share interests that span classical, popular, world, film, and game music. Staff include music historians, composers, theorists and industry specialists. This website will introduce you to the staff, the courses, and the facilities on offer to those interested in the study of Music.
