This Joint Honors course covers the history and critical framework of film production and consumption from the 1890s to the present day. In addition, students engage with the development of digital media, alongside modules designed to encourage a critically informed creative practice. Lectures, seminars and practice-based classes are combined with film screenings to provide students with a starting point for further investigation. At every stage of their study students are supported in developing the critical, creative, and presentational skills necessary to succeed in the current workplace and/or to proceed to further study. Assessment by a combination of coursework and participation contributes to this process. Please use the link above to find more detailed information on the course.
Columbia University and Trinity Dual BA Programme
Starting in September 2020, the Department of Film will offer a Dual BA between Trinity College Dublin and Columbia University. This programme offers students an international educational experience with a program spanning two continents and cosmopolitan cities. In their first two years at Trinity, Film students take foundational modules in film history, theory and practice. In years three and four at Columbia, students continue to work towards a major in Film and Media Studies. This program of study allows students to continue to develop their skills and deepen their engagement with the core discipline. In the latter part of their degree, students also complete an additional credits in the Trinity Sophister program, concluding with a capstone co-supervised between Columbia and Trinity. Applicants to the Dual BA Program must apply by January 2 for autumn enrolment.
