Welcome to Drama and Theatre Studies at Trinity College Dublin.  Come inside and explore the two Drama undergraduate degree courses that we offer, see how your life-journey can begin and join a long line of illustrious alumni.

BA in Drama and Theatre Studies
This Single Honor degree course provides the basis for an in-depth academic and practical exploration of drama, theatre and performance which are informed both theoretically and historically.

BA in Drama Studies and another subject
This Joint Honor degree course allows students to combine Drama Studies with a range of other subjects such as English, Film, Languages, History of Art, Music, Classical Civilization and Sociology.  Students take both subjects for the first three years and major in ONE of the subjects in the final year.

Both courses explore the dynamic relationship between the theory and practice of drama and theatre, to discover how and why they work. Combining training in the key elements of history, theory and practice, the strong developmental emphasis of our courses requires a particular blend of both practical and academic skills. In addition to a high level of analytical ability and creativity, you will need to possess resourcefulness, self-motivation and good time-management skills.  Teaching is by lecture, seminar and workshop with a strong emphasis on experiential learning by doing and practice-based research through theatre production. We are most fortunate to have the purpose-built Samuel Beckett Theatre as an exceptional dedicated teaching, research and performance space. The expertise of our world-renowned staff combined with this unique facility offers a stimulating, creative and supportive learning environment. Year upon year our graduates fulfil their potential and enjoy careers at the highest levels of national and international excellence in the fields of theatre, performance, film, television, media, writing, journalism, academia and beyond.

With Drama and Theatre Studies at Trinity College Dublin all the world is your stage!”

Drama and theatre studies combine elements of literary, cultural, historical and sociological studies with a practical understanding. Trinity College offers two Drama Undergraduate courses:

BA in Drama and Theatre Studies

This single Honor degree course provides the basis for the practical exploration of theatre and other types of performance which is both theoretically and historically informed. Most graduates find employment in theatre or related professions and many opt to take further training or apprenticeships in specialist areas of theatre, film, or television (such as directing, acting, design, writing, management, community drama, teaching, etc.) and pursue successful careers in their chosen fields. Recent graduates have also formed their own theatre companies. (Please note that, although there are practice-oriented modules available on this course, it should not be regarded as a vocational training course.)

BA in Drama Studies and another subject

This is an honor degree course allowing students to combine Drama Studies with a range of other subjects including all languages, English, History of Art, Music, Classics and Sociology.
