Dr. Shi's research interest is emerging pollutants monitoring and removal in drinking water and wastewater. In the last two years, Dr. Shi's focused on the cost-effective method development for microplastic monitoring in water. As a member of Trinity microplastic team, Dr. Shi established a reliable method to determine the microplastic release number during the food preparation in our daily life. The related case study of baby feeding bottles was published on Nature food. Now, Dr. Shi is working on the development of effective technologies to control the microplastic release. The removal efficiency of 99.8% in a recent study was obtained, while the zero-released plastic is the goal in the future studies. To date, she has published 20+ peer-reviewed publications and 2 patents.
