Biography
Nick Silver is an actuary and economist whose specialities include risk management, social insurance and economic development. As well as Trinity Business School, he a visiting fellow at the Grantham Institute, senior honorary visiting fellow at Cass Business School and visiting fellow at the Global Sustainability Institute at Anglia Ruskin University.
Nick is a director of Callund Consulting Limited, a specialist consultancy which advises developing country governments on social insurance. Nick is on Council of the Institute and Faculty of Actuaries. He has also worked extensively in developing mechanisms to finance and risk manage both mitigation and adaptation to climate change. Nick is a founder and director of the Climate Bonds Initiative (CBI), which is working with governments and MLIs to develop policies that will facilitate institutional investment at scale in the low carbon economy.
Nick has advised the UNFCCC, UK’s Department of Energy and Climate Change (DECC) and Development Department (DFID) and the German Development Department (GIZ) on climate finance in developing countries. Nick has advised a number of countries in Africa, Asia, the Caribbean and Eastern Europe on social insurance and economic development. He has been widely quoted in the UK media, with recent appearances on Sky News, BBC Radio 5 live and BBC News 24. He holds an MSc in Public Financial Policy from the London School of Economics.
