Biography
George Boyle is a quixotic, liberal architect, strategic advisor, social entrepreneur and earth mother - in a hat.
An honours 1992 UCD graduate, she turned professional with RIAI/RIBA in 1997. She established design and vision-writing practice georgeboyledesigns in 2010. In parallel, hoping to cultivate creative innovation and new work practice she founded Fumbally Exchange (FEx), a hub for inventors, entrepreneurs and design professionals collaborating for change. In 2015 she established FEx Academy, a learning laboratory for students "too cool for school" - providing experiential, experimental and explorative educational reform. FEx has developed a reputation synonymous with work practice evolution, urban regeneration, creative excellence and transformative thinking: Making Work. Together. FEx moved from Dublin’s Liberties in 2013 to the award-winning FEx HQ at Dame Lane, D2. Within a year membership swelled to 175 business entities. FEx is expanding steadily to other locations and sectors nationwide and has partners in Scotland,England, Wales, France, Italy and the US.
George was a recipient of the Arthur Guinness Fund’s Social Entrepreneur of the Year award 2011 and Social Entrepreneurs Ireland’s elevator award 2012. She has been recognised with a number of architectural accolades. She is non-executive director on a number of boards of a diverse range of companies and is president elect for the Institute of Designers in Ireland. She plays cello, piano and harp, is a published columnist, writer and poet and lives on the Grand Canal in Dublin, which may some day be significant.
George delivers the “Spirit of Entrepreneurship” “the Creative Process” and “the Value of People” modules on entrepreneurship in the Trinity School of Business in which she attempts to provide a real overview of the role, purpose and meaning of what constitutes social enterprise and to kindle a respect for the common ground between social and more commercially focussed business. George pictures a future where all business practice is carried out in with integrity in a considered, socially enriching, environmentally sustainable and just way, a future where ethics is the common etiquette in the boardroom and empathy is an innately essential leadership attribute.
