International Entry Requirements

We receive applications from all over the world and from all disciplines. Once your university or institute is recognised and accredited locally, we can convert your qualification to check you make the grade. A first or upper second-class honours degree (60% + ), or equivalent is required. Look up your country below to see if your qualifications meet our entry requirements.

Afghanistan

A Masters degree from a well ranked public institution with a score of 85% and above will be considered.

Albania

Diplomë universitare is insufficient for entry. Kandidat i Shkencave (Candidate of Sciences), Masters level will be considered. A score of 8.5-9.5 from a well ranked public institution is considered comparable to an Irish 2.1 while a score of 8-8.5 is considered comparable to an Irish 2.2.

Algeria

A 3 year Licence with a score of 15/20 from a well ranked public institution is considered comparable to an Irish 2.1.

Argentina

Typically we require a four year Bachelors degree: A promedio of 7.5 from a well ranked public institution is considered comparable to an Irish 2.1 while a score of 6.0/6.5 is considered comparable to an Irish 2.2.

Australia

We would normally require a four-year Bachelor's (Honours) degree with a 2:1 Distinction (70-79%), although some courses may also welcome applicants offering at least a 2:2 Credit (60-69%). Applications from students with a three-year Bachelor's degree from an Australian university are also welcomed. You will normally be required to have or attain a final degree classification awarded as First Class or High Distinction.

Austria

A Bachelor's degree, Diplomstudium/Magister with a score of 60% or B or 3.1 from a well ranked public institution is considered comparable to an Irish 2.1, while a score of 50% or C or 2.7 is considered comparable to an Irish 2.2.

Belgium

Typically we require a Bachelor degree/Licenciaat/Licencie. A grade of Summa Cum Laude from a well ranked public institution is considered comparable to an Irish 2.1, while a Magna Cum Laude is considered comparable to an Irish 2.2.

Brazil

Typically the Bacharel/Licenciado/Licenciatura is deemed equivalent to an Irish Bachelors degree. A score of 7.5 or 75 from a well ranked public institution is considered comparable to an Irish 2.1, while a score of 6.5 or 65 is considered comparable to an Irish 2.2. For other grading systems, please contact the International Office.

Bulgaria

Typically we require a Bachelor's degree (started after 2001) or the Master's degree (awarded pre-2001). A score of 5 from a well ranked public institution is considered comparable to an Irish 2.1, while a score of 4 is considered comparable to an Irish 2.2.

Cambodia

A four year Licence degree with a score of 8.0 - 8.4 or Very Good or B+ from a well ranked public institution is considered comparable to an Irish 2.1, while a score of 7.0-7.9 or Good or B is considered comparable to an Irish 2.2.

Cameroon

Typically we will consider a four year Licence, Bachelor degree or Diplôme d'Etudes Superieures de Commerce (DESC)or Diplôme d'Ingénieur or a Maîtrise. A score of 14/20 or Bien from a well ranked public institution is considered comparable to an Irish 2.1, while a score of 12-13/20 or Assez Bien is considered comparable to an Irish 2.2.

Canada

Typically either a GPA 3.3, numeric grade of 77 or above, or B+ will be considered equivalent to a 2:1 degree.

Chile

Typically the Licenciaturo is deemed equivalent to an Irish Bachelors degree. A score of 5.5 from a well ranked public institution is considered comparable to an Irish 2.1, while a score of 5.0 is considered comparable to an Irish 2.2.

China

A score of 82% out of 100 from a well ranked public institution is considered comparable to an Irish 2.1, while a score of 77% is considered comparable to an Irish 2.2. We also take in to account the subjects studied as well as the institution's ranking.

Columbia

Typically we require a Licienciatura/Licenciado or Titulo Profesional which is deemed equivalent to an Irish Bachelors degree. A score of 4.0 from a well ranked public institution is considered comparable to an Irish 2.1, while a score of 3.5 is considered comparable to an Irish 2.2.

Costa Rica

Typically we require a Licenciado which is deemed equivalent to an Irish Bachelors degree. A score of 8 or 8.0 or Notable from a well ranked public institution is considered comparable to an Irish 2.1, while a score of 7.5 or 75 or Suficiente is considered comparable to an Irish 2.2.

Cyprus

Bachelor's degree considered comparable to British Bachelor degree standard. A score of 7.0-8.49 from a well ranked public institution is considered comparable to an Irish 2.1, while a score of 6.0-6.99 is considered comparable to an Irish 2.2.

Denmark

A score of 10-11 from a well ranked public institution is considered comparable to an Irish 2.1, while a score of 7-10 is considered comparable to an Irish 2.2.

Egypt

A score of 80 - 89% from a well ranked public institution is considered comparable to an Irish 2.1, while a score of 65 - 79% is considered comparable to an Irish 2.2. See USA for American grading systems.

Ethiopia

Masters with excellent grades (A or 3.5/4) will typically be considered for entry.

Finland

Typically we require Kandidaattii/Kandidat awarded pre-1993 or post 2007 or the Maisteri/Magister. Two grading schemes are in place. In the 1-3 system, we typically require marks of 2 or above. In the 1-5 system, we typically require marks of 3.5 or above, although for competitive courses, the requirement may be higher.

France

Typically we require a Licence obtained after three years of study. A score of 13-13.9 from a well ranked public institution is considered comparable to an Irish 2.1, while a score of 11.6-13 is considered comparable to an Irish 2.2.

Germany

Typically we require a Fachhochschuldiplom/Diplom (FH) with minimum grades of 2/Gut or Bachelor's or Magister Artrium/Diplom/ Erstes Staatsexamen with minimum of 2.2/Gut. A score of 2.0-2.4 from a well ranked public institution is considered comparable to an Irish 2.1, while a score of 2.5-3.1 is considered comparable to an Irish 2.2.

Greece

Bachelor's degree considered comparable to British Bachelor degree standard. A score of 7.0-8.49 from a well ranked public institution is considered comparable to an Irish 2.1, while a score of 6.0-6.99 is considered comparable to an Irish 2.2.

Haiti

University of the West Indies - A score of 70-79 or 7-7.99 or B from a well ranked public institution is considered comparable to an Irish 2.1, while a score of 60-69 or 6-6.99 or C is considered comparable to an Irish 2.2.

Hong Kong

A score of 3.00-3.30 is usually considered comparable to an Irish 2.1 and a score of 2.50-2.90 is usually considered comparable to an Irish 2.2. However exact requirements do vary according to the institution and specific department studied at. The honours awarded will be clearly stated in the final transcript.

Hungary

Typically we require the Alapfokozt from a university (when started after 2004) or the Egyetemi Oklevel from a university. A score of 4 from a well ranked public institution is considered comparable to an Irish 2.1, while a score of 3 is considered comparable to an Irish 2.2.

Iceland

Typically we require the Baccalaurreatus degree or Kandidatsprof/Candidatus Mag. A score of 7.5-8.0 from a well ranked public institution is considered comparable to an Irish 2.1, while a score of 6.5-7.49 is considered comparable to an Irish 2.2.

India

Requirements will vary dependant on recognition of University and scoring system used. As a guide, a score of between 60-80% is considered comparable to an Irish 2.1, while a score of between 50-59% is considered comparable to an Irish 2.2, depending on the ranking of the institution.

Indonesia

The Sajarna degree is deemed equivalent to an Irish bachelors degree. Warwick only accepts students from BAN-PT 'A' or 'B' accredited universities. Applicants from 'A' accredited universities require a grade of 3.3-3.69 for courses requiring a 2:1 for entry, and 3.0-3.29 for courses requiring a 2:2 for entry. Applicants from 'B' accredited universities require a grade of 3.7 or above for courses requiring a 2:1 for entry, and 3.3-3.69 for 2:2 entry.

Iran

A score of 15-17/20 (75%) from a well ranked institution is considered comparable to an Irish 2.1, while a score of 13-15/20 is considered comparable to an Irish 2.2.

Iraq

A 4-year bachelors degree from a well ranked institution generally with grades of 75-89% would be considered as equivalent to a 2:1, while a score of 60-74% would be considered comparable to a 2:2.

Ireland

A minimum grade of a 2:1 is required for entry.

Israel

A score of 80-89% from a well ranked institution is considered comparable to an Irish 2.1, while a score of 65-79% is considered comparable to an Irish 2.2.

Italy

Typically we require a Diploma di Laurea. A score of 27-29 or 104/110 is considered comparable to an Irish 2.1, while a score of 24-26 or 100/110 is considered comparable to an Irish 2.2.

Japan

A bachelors degree is considered comparable to British bachelors (Honours) degree standard. A score of B or 3.0 from a well ranked institution is considered comparable to an Irish 2.1, while a score of C or 2.0 is considered comparable to an Irish 2.2.

Kazakhstan

Minimum of Bakalavr, Specialist Diploma, Magister. A score of 4.3 - 4.69 from a well ranked institution is considered comparable to an Irish 2.1, while a score of 3.9 - 4.29 is considered comparable to a 2.2.

Kenya

A score of 60-69% from a well ranked institution is considered comparable to an Irish 2.1, while a score of 50-59% is considered comparable to an Irish 2.2.

Korea (North)

Korea (South)

Bachelors Degree is considered comparable to British Bachelors (Honours) degree standard. A score of B or a GPA of 3.5 from a well ranked institution is considered comparable to an Irish 2.1, while a score of C or 3.0 is considered comparable to an Irish 2.2.

Latvia

Bakalaurs (courses from 2000) and Magistrs (before 2000) are considered comparable to an Irish Bachelor's degree. A score of 7 from a well ranked institution is considered comparable to an Irish 2.1, while a score of 6 is considered comparable to an Irish 2.2.

Lithuania

Bakalauras is considered comparable to British Bachelor's degree. A score of 9 from a well ranked institution is considered comparable to an Irish 2.1, while a score of 8 is considered comparable to an Irish 2.2.

Luxembourg

Typically we require a Bachelor's degree. A score of 16-18 from a well ranked institution is considered comparable to an Irish 2.1, while a score of 14-16 is considered comparable to an Irish 2.2.

Malaysia

A score of Class 2:i or 3.2 - 3.69 from an MQA Tier 5 university or a score of 3.7 and above from a Tier 4 university is considered comparable to an Irish 2:1. A score of Class 2:2 or 3.0-3.19 from a Tier 5 university and 3.2-3.69 from a Tier 4 university is considered comparable to an Irish 2:2.

Malta

Bachelors degree with honours is considered comparable to an Irish Bachelors degree, with the same grading system as Ireland.

Mexico

Typically we consider a Licenciatura as equivalent to an Irish bachelors degree. A score of 8.5 from a well ranked institution is considered comparable to an Irish 2.1, while a score of 7.5 is considered comparable to an Irish 2.2.

Morocco

A Bachelors degree with a minimum of around 15 is generally considered as equivalent to a 2:1 for postgraduate entry.

Nepal

We require applicants to have achieved 80% + in a Masters programme from a recognised University.

Netherlands

Typically we require a Bachelors degree (started after 2002) or the second level doctorandus (drs/ir/mr) obtained after four to six years of study. A score of 7-8 from a well ranked institution is considered comparable to an Irish 2.1, while a score of 6-7 is considered comparable to an Irish 2.2. For degrees graded on a 4.0 GPA scale, we require an overall GPA of 3.5.

New Zealand

A score of B+/B or 6.0 GPA from a well ranked institution is considered comparable to an Irish 2.1, while a score of B-/C+ or 5.0 GPA is considered comparable to an Irish 2.2. Requirements may vary dependant on scoring system used.

Norway

Typically we require a Bachelor degree. A score of B from a well ranked institution is considered comparable to an Irish 2.1, while a score of C is considered comparable to an Irish 2.2. Alternatively, Candidatus Magisterii with minimum grades of 2.5 or less.

Pakistan

Requirements may vary according to recognition of University and scoring system used. Typically, students will need to complete a 4 year Bachelors Degree to be considered for PG study. A GPA of 3.2 from a well ranked institution is considered comparable to an Irish 2.1, while a GPA of 2.6 is considered comparable to an Irish 2.2. University of London External degree programmes are also considered for entry.

Peru

Typically we require a four year bachelors degree. A score of 13 or Muy Bueno from a well ranked institution is considered comparable to an Irish 2.1, while a score of 12 or Bueno is considered comparable to an Irish 2.2.

Philippines

Typically holders of bachelors degrees from Centre of Excellence will be considered for entry to postgraduate programmes. A minimum final mark of Magna Cum Laude would be considered equivalent to a 2:1.

Poland

Typically we require the Magister or master's degree (awarded pre-2006) or the bachelor's degree (started after 2006). A score of 4.5 from a well ranked institution is considered comparable to an Irish 2.1, while a score of 4 is considered comparable to an Irish 2.2.

Portugal

Typically we require a Diploma de Estudos Superiores Especializados (DESE) or Licenciado. A score of 16-17 from a well ranked institution is considered comparable to an Irish 2.1, while a score of 14-15 is considered comparable to an Irish 2.2.

Romania

The Diploma de Licenta is considered comparable to British Bachelor's degree. A score of 9 from a well ranked institution is considered comparable to an Irish 2.1, while a score of 8 is considered comparable to an Irish 2.2.

Russia

A score of 4.3-4.69 from a well ranked institution is considered comparable to an Irish 2.1, while a score of 3.9-4.29 is considered comparable to an Irish 2.2.

Rwanda

A 4 year bachelor degree and/or masters degree with a 16/20 or at least 70% may be considered for entry.

Saudi Arabia

A 4-year bachelors degree with a GPA of 3.75-4.39 from a well ranked institution is considered comparable to an Irish 2.1, while a GPA of 3.10-3.74 is considered comparable to an Irish 2.2.

Singapore

Holders of a degree at Bachelor (Hons) or Masters level with good grades from Singaporean universities will be considered for entry. A score of 60% or B or 3.1 from a well ranked institution is considered comparable to an Irish 2.1, while a score of 50% or C or 2.7 is considered comparable to an Irish 2.2.

South Africa

A four year bachelors degree with a score of 70-74% or Upper Second from a well ranked institution is considered comparable to an Irish 2.1, while a score of 60-69% or Lower Second is considered comparable to an Irish 2.2.

Spain

The Licenciado or Título de Ingeniero or Título de Arquitecto is considered comparable to an Irish Bachelor's degree. A score of 7.5-9 from a well ranked institution is considered comparable to an Irish 2.1, while a score of 6-8 is considered comparable to an Irish 2.2.

Sri Lanka

Four year bachelor special degrees from recognised universities are considered for entry. A score of 60-74% from a well ranked institution is considered comparable to an Irish 2.1, while a score of 55-59% is considered comparable to an Irish 2.2.

Sweden

Typically we require a Kandidatexamen or Magisterexamen. A score of B from a well ranked institution is considered comparable to an Irish 2.1, while a score of C is considered comparable to an Irish 2.2.

Switzerland

Typically we require a Bachelor's degree (started after 2006) or Diplom or Lizentiat or Staatsdiplom/Diplôme d'Etat. A score of 5 from a well ranked institution is considered comparable to an Irish 2.1, while a score of 4 is considered comparable to an Irish 2.2.

Taiwan

Typically a four year bachelors degree from a national or highly recognised university. A score of 75% or B from a well ranked university is considered comparable to an Irish 2.1, while a score of 70% or C is considered comparable to an Irish 2.2.

Thailand

Four year Bachelor degrees from a well ranked institution with a minimum CGPA of 3.3 out of 4.0 are generally considered comparable to a 2:1 for postgraduate entry. A score of 3.0-3.29 is considered comparable to a 2:2.

Turkey

Lisans Diplomasi or a Műhendis Diplomasi. A score of 3.0-3.49 or 65-69.9% is considered comparable to an Irish 2.1. A score of 2.7-2.99 or 60-64.9% is considered comparable to a 2.2. However the standing of the awarding institution is important and equivalents may vary.

Uganda

A three-year bachelor degree (four years for Engineering, Law and Pharmacy degrees) with GPA of at least 60-69% or B+ may be considered for entry.

Ukraine

Dyplom Magistra or a Bachelors degree with a score of 4.5 from a well ranked university is considered comparable to an Irish 2.1, while a score of 4.0 is considered comparable to an Irish 2.2.

United Arab Emirates

A 4-year bachelors degree with a GPA of 3.0-3.49 out of 4.0 (3.5/5) from a well ranked university is considered comparable to an Irish 2.1, while a score of 2.60-2.99 is considered comparable to an Irish 2.2.

United Kingdom

We require a 2:1 (upper second class honours), or above for entry.

USA

A CGPA of at least 3.2 is comparable to an Upper Second Class Honours Degree.

Venezuela

Typically we will consider a Licenciatura (four years) as equivalent to an Irish Bachelors with a grade of 81% (Sobresaliente) as equivalent to a 2:1 though this does vary depending on the grading system used by the institution. For other grading systems, a score of 14 from a well ranked university is considered comparable to an Irish 2.1, while a score of 11 is considered comparable to an Irish 2.2.

Vietnam

A Bachelor's degree (Bang tot nghiep dai hoc) from a recognised Vietnamese university is sufficient for postgraduate entry. Holding a Master's degree (Thac si) will strongly enhance an application. A score of 7.0-7.9 from a well ranked university is considered comparable to an Irish 2.1, while a score of 6.0-6.9 is considered comparable to an Irish 2.2.

Zambia

Master's degree with a minimum GPA of 3.5/5 or mark of 2.0/2.5 (A) may be considered for entry for postgraduate entry. Bachelor degrees may be considered on a case by case basis with 65% or above if the applicant has completed a Bachelor’s degree in Medicine or Surgery degree.

Zimbabwe

A Masters degree may be considered for entry. a 3 or 4 years Bachelor degrees may be considered on a case by case basis. A score of 65-74% is considered comparable to an Irish 2.1, while a score of 60-64% is considered comparable to an Irish 2.2.
