Alumni Spotlight - Christopher Ewert

John Harrington, MSc in Finance Graduate
Current employment: Head of International Beta and ETF Product at J.P. Morgan Asset Management, London

"Many people take a narrow view on the word ‘investment’, but for me the MSc Finance has been my best investment to date. Engaging and prominent lecturers do not only match the reputation of the programme, but the knowledge being passed on is consistently allowing students to meet their career ambitions.

Not only have many colleagues complimented the range and depth of the programme’s curriculum, the potential to become involved in extra-curricular activities is superb. For example, the CFA Research Challenge and the Trinity Student-Managed Fund both provide students with invaluable access to industry mentors, and the sort of experience that employers are increasingly looking for.

Having studied Corporate Law prior to the programme, I also benefitted from the flexible admissions policy. Most people find that success on the course depends on each person’s desire to learn rather than necessarily having a particular mathematical or finance orientated background. The mix of students from many different disciplines is testament to this. This way of thinking ensures each student’s contribution is uniquely different, which leads to exciting classroom discussion and coursework. While hard work is certainly required, you are given the tools and resources to succeed."

Christopher Ewert, MSc in Finance Graduate
Current employment: Investment/Corporate Credit Analyst, Guggenheim Partners, Dublin

"Trinity business school was the best decision I could have taken, not only from an academic standpoint but most importantly for my personal development. The Masters in Finance helped me to build international relationships, expand my network and make new friends.
I must say the Masters degree from TCD was a career enhancement for me as I got a job in Leveraged Finance in less than a month after I submitted my dissertation.

I can also highly recommend exploring the college life in Trinity as it offers a great variety of societies and activities amidst its unique campus. Amongst many excellent modules, I must highlight the Private Equity class which I enjoyed the most. The practical and business case-oriented lectures, tutorials and group projects provide all tools necessary to get a job in Finance."

Shelby Smith, MSc in Finance Graduate
Current employment: Risk Analyst at NBC Global Finance Ltd.

"I did my undergraduate degree in finance at Saint Joseph's University in Philadelphia, PA, USA. I decided to pursue a post-graduate degree as a part of the Sport Changes Life program in partnership with Trinity. The MSc Finance was a choice based on my undergraduate study as I wanted to continue on the same path.

I am currently working at NBC Global Finance Limited (fully-owned subsidiary of National Bank of Canada) as a risk analyst/ junior trader. The program has given me a baseline knowledge level as well as experience in an international setting that has served me very well in my career thus far."

Nicholas Hogan, MSc in Finance Graduate
Current employment: Analyst, Finance Transformation Consulting, Deloitte Ireland, Dublin

"The environment at Trinity Business School challenges you to constantly improve your knowledge in and out of the classroom. I recommend this program to those individuals who want to surpass their existing knowledge and catapult themselves into a successful career in the finance industry."

Pia Helbing, MSc in Finance Graduate
Current employment: Assistant Professor, Leeds University Business School

"I came to Trinity Business School to expand my knowledge about the financial world. The academic and intellectual environment provide ample opportunities to enhance those skills needed to work in the financial sector. Also, the university campus and the city of Dublin set a great surrounding to study. The professors, the diverse student life with various clubs and societies as well as the international profile of the student body are valuable to learn from - not only during class.

I was able to tailor my degree with six electives ranging from politics to quantitative modules. I recommend this MSc since it not only prepares you for the finance business but also for academia."
