Business Ethics Speaker Series 2022-23: Professor Judith Walls on Sustainability Strategy and Governance
Professor Judith Walls is Chair for Sustainability Management, Professor at the School of management and Co-Director of the Institute for Economy and the Environment (IWÖ) and Delegate of Responsibility & Sustainability at the University of St. Gallen (HSG). Her research focuses on sustainability strategy and governance, in particular the role top executives and board directors, combining social psychology with strategy perspectives play to understand the transformation of companies towards sustainability. She has a special interest in corporate governance over biodiversity and land use, and the dynamics of contested industries such as mining and trophy hunting. Prof. Walls has published her work in top academic journals as well as practitioner-oriented outlets, and also serves on several editorial boards. She was the Chair of the Organizations and Natural Environment division at the Academy of Management during 2019-2020.Prior to her academic career, Prof. Walls worked in investor relations consulting in Europe and Asia-Pacific. She has also volunteered extensively with conservation organizations in Namibia, Botswana, and Mongolia working on topics related to human-wildlife conflict at local community level.
