'APERTURES - collecting NEW, collecting NOW'
introduces ten new artists to the collections, whose work we have purchased and received by donation this year. In selecting contemporary art for the University, we hope to open up new kinds of opportunities - or apertures - for contemplation, stimulation and inspiration across the campus.
Art has the power to foster new ways to connect creatively with our own thoughts and with artists whose work and ideas are new to us or to the collections.
The exhibition consists of three main display panels in the Arts Building concourse elucidating three different means by which the University has acquired art in the past year:
Provost's Fund for Contemporary Art
College Gallery Art Hire Scheme Purchases
Donations
We necessarily focus on a selection of our new acquisitions, however, we have acquired hundreds of works over the past decade which have already been integrated into the campus.
A full list of acquisitions for 2016-17 is available here, with the list from 2007 to the present coming soon. Please enjoy the additional links to biographies and images therein.
We are hugely appreciative of the ongoing support of the Provost, the College Gallery Hire Scheme participants, and all our donors in enabling the University to deepening the scope of our collections while simultaneously striving forth in the contemporary.
