Tap

TAP goes to Oxford

The Trinity Access Programmes (TAP) established the TAP Foundation Courses in the late 1990s to offer another route into Trinity for academically students from low income backgrounds, providing them with an opportunity to fulfil their true educational potential.  Since the course was established over 2,000 students have progressed into University via the Foundation Courses and other entry routes they inspired. In 2016 Lady Margaret Hall (LMH) College in Oxford welcomed ten students to its inaugural Foundation Year, modelled on the TAP course. This unique programme, the first at any Oxbridge College, is being developed in partnership with Trinity. The aim of the programme is to support bright students from under-represented groups through a combination of academic and personal support.

The LMH staff supporting the Foundation Year have every reason to be hopeful for the outcomes of students on the Foundation Year. Based on TAP’s progression rates since 1997, over 90% of students have been enabled to further their education. The success of this programme is also evident in the fact that many of these students play active roles as ‘ambassadors’ returning to their own communities to encourage younger students to think about going to University and to make them aware of the supports that are available.

Both TAP and LMH are hugely grateful for the incredibly generous contributions of alumni and friends which help sustain these ground-breaking programmes and support many exceptional students.

For more information on LMH Foundation Year please visit their website and watch a video on the LMH Foundation Year. To find out more about TAP and its programmes please visit their website or follow their Facebook and Twitter for regular updates.
