Name: Jeronimo Martin
2017 Atlantic Fellow
Emergency Medicine Specialist
Home Country: Mexico

What does equity in brain health means to you?
For me equity in brain health is giving all the people no matter their place of origin, sex, race, religion or socioeconomic status, the same opportunities to reach their highest brain health potential and thus to diminish their risk of developing dementia and other neurological diseases.

What do you hope to achieve during your scholarship?
I hope to gain the knowledge and abilities that will allow me to go back to Mexico and start programs and policies to change stroke treatment and prevention. I also hope to acquire a broader, global, view of dementia and the problem it represents around the world.

What do you enjoy most about the fellowship?
I think that the most enjoyable and valuable thing about the fellowship is having the opportunity to work around so many different people. The multidisciplinary approach, working with not only physicians but researchers, journalists, psychologists and experts from other backgrounds who come from so many different countries, is the greatest thing about this opportunity.

What is most surprising about life in Dublin?
Living in Dublin has been a great experience. The most surprising thing is, I think, the food. The change from Mexico to Dublin in terms of eating and drinking is really enormous and makes one try new and different things.
