Broad Curriculum

Broad Curriculum (BC) offfers a module from outside a student's chosen course for those interested in broadening their education or University experience.

Making an Application

Please follow the below steps when making an application for a Broad Curriculum course:

  • Check the 2018/19 credit guidelines for your course to see if you are eligible to take your chosen module.
  • You must now decide whether you wish to take a BC language module or a BC cross faculty module. A BC cross faculty module is any module that is not a language module.
  • If you wish to apply for a BC cross faculty module please apply here.
  • If you wish to apply for a BC language module please apply here.
  • The BC module that you have been enrolled in will be visible on your timetable and in your student portal mytcd.ie in September 2018.
  • Please note that your Broad Curriculum module(s) will not appear on your timetable until September 2018. You will see the Blackboard page for your chosen module within two working days of BC enrolment. Please be aware you will be enrolled in September.
  • All BC module choices should be submitted as early as possible. The deadline for changes to your BC module choices is Friday September 14th, 2018. This includes Michaelmas and Hilary termmodule choices.

All queries in relation to the application form and changes to your module choices should be directed to the Academic Registry Service Desk through the ASK AR button my.tcd.ie for attention of the Broad Curriculum support staff. Any questions in relation to the modules and academic content should be directed to the relevant academic department delivering the module.

GUIDE TO LANGUAGE PROFICIENCY LEVELS
Sign up for :
A1 level
…if you have never studied this language before, although you may know some very basic words and phrases.
A2 level

…if you can already understand and say some basic phrases, if you can introduce yourself, ask and answer questions about personal details, if you can interact in a simple way when people speak slowly.

B1 level

…if you can already describe who you are, where you come from, exchange information and communicate in routine tasks (shopping, directions, work). Pass in Leaving Certificate required.
