Update from College Secretary and Director, College Health Service to students and staff

10 December 2020

Dear students and colleagues,

The number of COVID cases among Trinity’s student population is at the very lowest end of the spectrum of cases in universities across the country. We have no doubt that this is due to the way in which the students here at Trinity have followed the guidelines from Public Health and College. The ability of College Health to rapidly test those who have symptoms and the Triniscreen project have certainly helped stop the development of outbreaks but it is the behaviour of the students and staff with regard to hand washing, cough etiquette, face coverings and physical distancing that have been the critical factor. We would ask you to continue with these efforts over the Christmas break.

Christmas and New Year student activities

Festive decoration making, baking, and cocktail mixing, international student chats, and movies and books with the Global Stories Club are some of the activities being organised to help provide the best possible College experience to our students for the festive season. To find out more details, please keep an eye out on the calendar here

Study and Library spaces

As mentioned in last week’s email, study spaces are available over the holiday period and the Library has resumed evening and Saturday openings to help students who want to study on campus for their exams, more information here

Student support

Don’t forget that student supports over the Christmas/New Year holiday break (23 December – 3 January) include Student Counselling Service, College Health Service, Assistant Junior Deans and Assistant Wardens cover, Chaplaincy pastoral services and College Security. We realise that this can be a difficult time of year for people.

Pre-return to work questionnaire

Our Pre-return to Work questionnaire has been updated. It is important that when returning to work in January after the Christmas break, staff and postgraduate students must complete the form which will be available from your line manager, head of school or school administrative manager.

Keeping safe

It is positive that Government discussions are taking place to plan how the COVID-19 vaccine will be rolled out in Ireland. Please remember that it is still very important to take all preventative measures on campus and at home to prevent the spread of the virus such as face coverings, hand washing, cough and sneeze good practice and physical distancing.

Stay safe. Stay well. Bígí slán agus sábháilte.

Kind regards,

John Coman, Secretary to the College
Seán Ó Comáin, Rúnaí an Choláiste

Dr David McGrath, Director, College Health Service
An Dr Daithi Mac Craith, Stiúrthóir, Seirbhís Sláinte an Choláiste
