Update from College Secretary and Director, College Health Service to staff and students

25 February 2020

Dear students/colleagues

In light of the recent confirmed cases of Covid-19 (Coronavirus) in Italy, the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade has advised people not to travel to several Italian towns in affected areas. These are Codogno, Castiglione d'Adda, Casalpusterlengo, Fombio, Maleo, Somaglia, Bertonico, Terranova dei Passerini, Castelgerundo and San Fiorano.

In addition, the regions of Lombardy, Veneto, Friuli Venezia Giulia, Piemonte and Emilia Romagna have put certain restrictions in place, including in relation to events, and the temporary closure of educational and cultural institutions.

Travellers to Italy are advised to monitor developments regularly and to register on the TravelWise App with the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade, Twitter handle: @dfatravelwise.

On this basis, Trinity would not recommend that any students or staff travel to the affected areas in Italy as listed in the first paragraph above until further notice and that any travel to these areas which is being planned does not go ahead at this time.

We are monitoring the situation and will update the College community. The health and well-being of our staff and students is paramount.

If any staff member is unable to return to Ireland they should contact their line manager. If any student is unable to return to Ireland or has queries about issues on their return they should contact their personal Tutor or the Senior Tutor's Office on 353-1-8962551 or stosec@tcd.ie

For more information and advice on how to how to protect yourself from novel coronavirus 2019-nCoV, please refer to our designated webpage.

Kind regards

John Coman, Secretary to the College
