PhD Research
The freshwater pearl mussel (Margaritifera margaritifera) is a critically endangered species that, to date, continues to decline in spite of over 20 years of protection within Special Areas of Conservation under the Habitat’s Directive. This project aims to further our understanding on catchment wide ecological and hydrological processes and their interactions with recruiting Margaritifera populations. The information gathered through this research will have high value in conservation assessment and prioritization of this species.
This PhD is supervised by Prof. Jeremy Piggott (Department of Zoology, TCD) and Dr. Evelyn Moorkens (TCD Visiting Research Fellow and Margaritifera expert).
