Niteline Confidential Helpline

Niteline is a confidential and anonymous listening service that is run by and for students from Trinity, DCU, UCD, NUI Maynooth, the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland (RCSI), and the National College of Art and Design (NCAD).

Freephone: 1800 793 793

Niteline is:

  • Confidential
The contents of a call remain strictly between the caller and the volunteer they speak to.
  • Anonymous
Callers are not required to give their names or any other identifying details. In order to maintain the confidentiality and thus the credibility of Niteline, volunteers are required to remain extremely discreet about their involvement in the service.
  • Non-judgmental
Volunteers are committed to providing an atmosphere that is free from moral judgements.
  • Non-directive
Niteline volunteers will not pester you for information or offer you advice. We will not tell you what to do. We will work through things with you.
  • Run by students for students
Niteline volunteers are not just well intentioned amateurs. Before taking any calls, they go through a rigorous screening and training programme based on the Samaritans model and run with the help of the College Counselling Services. Ongoing training and support for volunteers is also a priority.
