Trinity College Dublin student athletes Leah Paul and Rebecca Stokell selected for the Cricket Ireland Squad for T20 World Cup Qualifier
Trinity student athlete’s Leah Paul and Rebecca Stokell have been selected as part of Cricket Ireland’s 15 player squad that will compete in the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup qualifier from September 18-25 in the UAE, with Ireland’s first match against Bangladesh.

Trinity student athlete’s Leah Paul and Rebecca Stokell have been selected as part of Cricket Ireland’s 15 player squad that will compete in the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup qualifier from September 18-25 in the UAE, with Ireland’s first match against Bangladesh.
The Women’s T20 World Cup qualifiers consists of eight teams split into two groups of four teams, with the top two teams of each group playing in the semi-finals. The winner of each semi-final will qualify for the Women’s T20 World Cup in South Africa, in February 2023. The group matches will be played between 18th - 21st September, with semi-finals on 23rd and 25th September.
The Irish squad are in Group A along with Bangladesh, USA and Scotland. Group B consists of Papua New Guinea, Thailand, UAE and Zimbabwe. The Irish squad consists of Laura Delany (capt), Rachel Delaney, Georgina Dempsey, Amy Hunter, Shauna Kavanagh, Arlene Kelly, Gaby Lewis, Sophie MacMahon, Jane Maguire, Cara Murray, Leah Paul, Orla Prendergast, Eimear Richardson, Rebecca Stokell, Mary Waldron.
Stokell, a batter, made her One Day International (ODI) debut back in 2017 against South Africa, her T20 debut came in 2016 against the West Indies. Since then, she has played a further 14 T20 matches, amassing 220 runs across those 15 games. She was named Female Academy Player of the Year at the 2018 Cricket Ireland Awards.
Bowler Paul made her T20 debut in 2019 against the Netherlands and has a total of 16 caps in this format for her country, taking 16 wickets in the process. Paul was also recognised at the 2018 Cricket Ireland Awards where she was awarded Female Youth International Player of the Year.
T20 World Cup Qualifier - Group Stage (all times local)
• 18 September 2022: Ireland v Bangladesh (Zayed Cricket Stadium; 7pm start)
• 19 September 2022: Ireland v USA (Tolerance Oval; 7pm start)
• 21 September 2022: Ireland v Scotland (Tolerance Oval; 3pm start)
The top two teams from each group go into the Semi-Finals Stage - the two semi-final winners will qualify for the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2023. All Ireland matches will be available to watch through www.icc.tv and via Cricket Ireland social channels.
