Trinity Sport Statement

Published: June 12th, 2020

On behalf of the Trinity Sport community, we recognize racism in sport and all forms of life as an Irish issue and it is not acceptable to us. Trinity Sport supports all our black students, staff, alumni and members at this time. We take this opportunity to commit to putting resources, energy and time to making the Trinity Sport environment welcoming to all, one where all members of our community can thrive.

Sport can and should play an important role in equality and throughout the years sport has helped to bring people together. Through our ‘Sport for All’ ethos, we have committed to standing against any form of racism or discrimination. We wanted to share with you some of the other steps Trinity Sport is taking to bring about equality.

Our commitment is evident through the recent introduction of a new role of a Physical Activity and Inclusion Officer created with support from the Trinity College Dublin Disability Service. The focus of the role is on inclusion, making Trinity Sport a place that celebrates diverse voices, and ensures that we are giving the supports, access and opportunities to all irrespective of race, background, status, gender or otherwise. We have adopted a Trinity Sport ‘Code of Ethics’, a policy initiative in line with our Strategy for Sport. The ‘Code of Ethics’ policy tackles issues on race, ethnicity, as well as the other grounds of discrimination. At Trinity Sport, we recognise that more can be done to create an equal environment for all and welcome ideas on how we can achieve this.

XAll of us involved in sport have a contribution to make to tackle racial inequality and we would like to hear from you if you need any supports or assistance to progress this. We are all responsible for making racism unacceptable in Trinity Sport.
