Trinity Student Aisling Keller Qualifies Ireland for Olympic Berth

Trinity Students Aisling Keller and Aoife Hopkins were competing at the Laser Radial World Championship in Japan
24th July 2019: Trinity Sport scholarship students ’18 / ’19 Aisling Keller and Aoife Hopkins have secured Ireland’s spot for the Tokyo 2020 Olympics sailing regatta in the women’s single-handed event, following two final races at the Laser Radial World Championship this morning in Japan.
A total of ten-nation places were available from the world championship for Tokyo, the berth was secured by Trinity’s Aisling Keller she had a sensational day in the final series to finish 46th overall while her Trinity and Ireland teammate Aoife Hopkins finishing two places behind in 48th place.
Both Trinity students were inside the qualification criteria to achieve an Olympic berth for Ireland on Wednesday’s final day (24th July). Ten nation places for Tokyo were available at the end of this event, success at Sakaiminato has guaranteed qualification for Ireland. To gain individual qualification, both Aoife and Aisling will have to prove themselves at a number of events over the coming months.
