Rowing round up from the Irish Championships

Published: July 17th, 2019

The 2019 Irish Rowing Championships were held last weekend in the National Rowing Centre. There were 1,224 crews entered for the weekend’s event, making it the biggest Irish Championships on record.

Trinity's Senior 8+ men competed in a very strong field and finished 4th just missing reigning champions Commercial at the line, while our senior 8+ women came 3rd in a hotly contested race. Both DUBC and DULBC also competed in various other races including, intermediate 8+, intermediate 4+, club 8+, club 4+ and novice 8+. Chief Rowing Coach Richard Ruggieri said afterwards “Intermediate 8+ was a solid finish however we did not perform at our best. This is part of racing and the field is too good not to perform your best. The Club 8+ was a great victory leading from the start and holding off multiple crews who challenged to the end.”

“Improvement could be seen with regards to team performance and results compared to previous years. The Club 8+ were named Irish Champions a feat last accomplished in 2013.”

“The men’s results placed Trinity in the top three for all programs. This will be our launching point as we look towards the 2019-2020 season. Appreciation goes to our seniors who represented Trinity for the last time as student rowers. We all agree that men’s rowing at Trinity was left stronger then when they began.”
