Talented trio sign to play for Trinity Meteors for the 2019 / 2020 Season

Trinity Meteors are delighted to announce the arrival of Edel Thornton, Lauren Grigsby and Carolyn Binder for the 2019 / 2020 National Basketball League season. Edel joins Trinity where she will be a postgraduate student of psychology from Quinnipiac University in Connecticut, USA. Quinnipiac recently won their conference title, where Edel scored 16 points with 5 assists in the final. She has also been named as ‘one of the most talented Irish basketball players of her generation’. Commenting on her decision, Edel said, “Trinity’s Applied Behaviour Analysis course was my dream choice and so the chance to study this at Trinity and play basketball at the same time was an opportunity I couldn’t turn down”.

Lauren joins Trinity where she will be a postgraduate student of Marketing from Rice University in Houston, Texas, USA. Lauren became the first player in Rice University’s history to be named as the Conference USA Sixth Player of the Year in 2018 / 2019. Lauren was influenced by her older brother to play basketball, “my older brother played, and I wanted to be involved in his games, but I ended up loving it.” Attending Trinity was an easy decision for Lauren, “It’s a once in a lifetime experience to play internationally and also get a world-renowned education at Trinity College Dublin”.

Carolyn joins Trinity where she will be a postgraduate student of Marketing from Columbia University, New York City, USA. Coming from a basketball orientated family as her dad played in college, as did her older sister, “I have been playing as long as I could walk, I would always tag along with my sister until I was old enough to be on a team of my own”. Commenting on her decision to attend Trinity College Dublin, Carolyn said “It was a goal of mine to play basketball overseas, so fulfilling that dream while also getting a top tier education in a field that I want to pursue a career in was an easy decision”.

Trinity Meteors basketball club currently compete in Women’s Division 1 of the National Basketball League, the 2019 / 2020 season will tip off against Griffith College Templeogue on the 5th October 2019.
