'Break smart' this Health and Sports week

Health & Sports week kicked off today and the theme this year is ‘Break smart: Better breaks mean better work’.
Our brains are like a muscle and can only focus for so long before needing a break. Non-stop work will leave you feeling drained while a well-timed break can do just the opposite – you’ll come back to the task at hand feeling sharper and more energised.
A well-timed ‘break’, however, does not mean mindlessly scrolling through your social media accounts or checking emails! Instead you’re encouraged to ‘take five and feel alive’ – take five to 10 minutes’ break every hour or so: get up from your desk and get some air, do some stretches, grab a snack.
The week-long list of events for Health & Sports week is crammed full of time-outs, tips and suggestions on how to improve your health and wellbeing. The official launch took place today on Fellow’s Square with a have-a-go ultimate frisbee session. Other highlights over the coming days include:
- Early morning mindfulness meditation
- Stress management with Ian Robertson
- Free fitness classes in the Sports Centre
- Give it a try sessions – climbing wall, trampoline
- Yoga in the Berkeley
