Guidance for Presenters and Chairs

We thank the presenters and chairs for their contributions that make the conference possible. For those who have not attended the PSAI previously, some guidance can be found below.

Presenters

Many colleagues like to present work that is at an early stage of development, so will often not have a paper ready to circulate to other delegates. However, those who wish to share their paper with the rest of the panel are encouraged to do so through their panel chair.

Presentations should last between 12 and 15 minutes. They should consist of a summary of the key points of their paper, rather than reading the paper verbatim.

Panel chairs will be responsible for timekeeping, and presenters are encouraged to heed the time warnings provided.

All rooms will be equipped with a laptop and projector.

Presenters wishing to present with the aid of slides are encouraged ensure that they bring a USB in order to facilitate the transfer of the slides to the laptop included as part of the set-up.

Colleagues working at the conference will be present at the venue in the event that assistance is required.

Chairs

Panel chairs are responsible for facilitating the session by keeping speakers on schedule. Where a panel has fewer speakers, more time can be allocated to the presenters. Where a panel has five presenters, presentation slots should be 12 minutes in duration where possible.

Chairs are asked to provide warnings to presenters when they approach 5 minutes remaining, 1 minute, and then when they are out of time.

It is important ensure that enough times is remaining to allow for audience questions (typically 20-30 minutes of the panel). Chairs are asked to facilitate the discussion, ensuring that as many audience members have the opportunity to contribute as possible, and all speakers receive constructive feedback. Due to the tight turnaround between panels, please ensure also that sessions do not overrun.
