PhD position in thermodynamics of quantum non-equilibrium steady states at Trinity College Dublin
A fully funded PhD position is available to work in the newly founded Thermodynamics and energetics of quantum systems group (QuSys) in the School of Physics at Trinity College Dublin, Ireland lead by Prof. John Goold. The successful candidate must hold a degree in physics, theoretical physics or applied mathematics. The project will focus on engineering the transport properties of non equilibrium steady states of complex many-body quantum systems with a view to applications in autonomous thermal machines. The ideal candidate will have an interest in quantum many-body physics, thermodynamics and/or quantum information and an interest in numerical simulation. We are looking for an enthusiastic and creative student who enjoys challenges and new endeavours.
The position is fully funded for a period of 4 years (stipend + fees) and is available also to non-Eu students as part of the starting grant (ODYSSEY) from the European Research Council. If successful, the candidate will be fully enrolled in the graduate program at Trinity College Dublin. Female candidates are strongly encouraged to apply.

The successful candidates must hold a PhD degree in physics, theoretical physics or applied mathematics. The ideal candidates will have extensive experience in a some of the following areas: quantum transport, numerical simulation of condensed matter systems, quantum thermodynamics or quantum information. The candidates should be enthusiastic and creative and comfortable with playing co-supervisory roles to students within the group.
The positions are initially available for a period of 3 years (2+1) but can be renewed for a further 2 years. The positions are part of the starting grant (ODYSSEY) from the European Research Council.
