Background
Cecilia, originally from Palermo, graduated with honours at the University of Trieste in December 2017, after developing her Master thesis at EPFL with the support of the INSPIRE fellowship promoted by NCCR MARVEL. Under the supervision of Prof. Yazyev, in Lausanne she conducted a first-principles study on electronic and magnetic properties of Van der Waals layered compounds, in order to identify materials with a Chern number different from zero. Her current research explores the capability of using quasi-periodic systems as working mediums in quantum thermal machines.
