Background

Dr. Nuala M. Caffrey leads a Computational Materials Research group in the School of Physics at Trinity College Dublin, Ireland, which uses theory and simulation to understand and address fundamental problems in materials science. She received her PhD in Computational Spintronics from Trinity College Dublin in 2012 and, after two postdoctoral positions in Kiel, Germany and Linkoping, Sweden, returned to Dublin in 2016 as the principle investigator of a Starting Investigator Research Grant (SIRG) awarded by Science Foundation Ireland. Her goal is to understand the effects of atomic and molecular intercalation in 2D layered materials from first principles, focusing on renewable energy applications such as batteries and catalysis.
