The philosophy of mind investigates questions concerning the nature of the mind and its relation to the body, e.g.: What is the relationship between the mind and the brain? Can non-living entities, e.g. computers, have minds? How do mental states, e.g. our beliefs, desires, and sensations, cause bodily motions? What are the distinctive features of consciousness? Can the mind be fully explained in non-mental, physical terms? How do thoughts and perceptions come to represent the world?
