Play by William Lyons, Emeritus Fellow in Philosophy, wins Italian theatre awardL'Edera e l'Abete, the Italian translation of William Lyons' play, The Fir Tree and the Ivy, about Hannah Arendt and Martin Heidegger, won the 2015 Premio Colline di Torino (Testo Teatrale). The translation is by Dr Alessio Frenda, a recent TCD Linguistics graduate. The original English version won the 2006 Eamon Keane Full Length Play Competition in Ireland.

Philosophy Students Elected to Scholarship, 2015It is with particular pleasure that the Department of Philosophy congratulates Single Honours Philosophy students, Ruairí William Maguire, Ciar McCormick and Ciara O'Rourke, and PPES students, Samuel Alexander Thomas Johnston, Patrick Lavelle and Matt Murtagh-White, who were among the 67 students announced by the Provost as new Foundation Scholars on Trinity Monday, 13 April 2015.

Philosophy Department hosts major conference on Autism and the Foundations of LanguageFrom 27-29 March 2015 the Department of Philosophy in conjunction with the School of Psychology, the Department of Clinical Speech and Language Studies and the National College of Ireland hosted a major international conference on Autism and the Foundations of Language.

Philosophy Alumnus, Lenny Abrahamson, honoured with College awardCrically acclaimed director and Trinity Philosophy alumnus, Lenny Abrahamson BA (1990), was honoured by the College with a 2015 Alumni Award. Abrahamson, a Dublin native, has directed four feature-length films as well as several award-winning projects for television.

New Book by Professor Vasilis PolitisThe Department of Philosophy is pleased to welcome a new book by Professor Vasilis Politis from Cambridge University Press on the method of argument and enquiry in Plato's early dialogues. In it Professor Politis proposes and defends a radically new account of Plato's method of argument and enquiry in the early dialogues.

Plato Centre Hosts Conference on The Aporetic Tradition in Ancient PhilosophyFrom 28-30 November 2014 the Plato Centre at Trinity College Dublin hosted 14 speakers from Austria, England, Germany, Ireland and the United States, all contributors to a volume on The Aporetic Tradition in Ancient Philosophy. This volume from Cambridge University Press will be edited by Vasilis Politis (TCD) and George Karamanolis (Vienna) and is due out in early 2016.

New Book by Professors Peter Simons and Edgar MorscherIt is with particular pleasure that the Department of Philosophy welcomes a new volume of collected essays by Peter Simons and Edgar Morscher from Academia Verlag. Some of the topics addressed in these essays include: questions of the objectivity of truth-bearers and truth-makers, the history and foundations of free logic and the philosophy of water.

Among the many topics explored in it are: Aquinas' views on philosophy and theology; his arguments for the existence of God; and his responses to the problem of evil.
