Overview

This course offers suitably qualified Nurses/Midwives and other health sciences practitioners, in the spirit of interdisciplinary learning, the opportunity to develop their skills in teaching, assessment, curriculum design and research. The modules offered are evidenced-based and aim to encourage critical thinking and reflexive practice. Academic teaching/learning sessions are both in-person, online and simulated and student teaching sessions will be delivered in Third Level Institutions and in the practice placement setting. This course is underpinned by the philosophy of self-directed adult learning.
This results in teachers who are reflexive, self-critical, evidence-based and prepared for the challenges of teaching within higher education. Nurses and midwives who successfully complete the M.Sc. in Clinical Health Sciences Education will be eligible to apply for registration as a nurse tutor (RNT) or midwifery tutor (RMT) with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Ireland (NMBI). If you already possess an M.Sc. in Nursing/Midwifery (or an allied health science subject), you can complete the Postgraduate Diploma in Clinical Health Sciences Education and subsequently be eligible to apply for registration as a nurse or midwifery tutor (RNT/RMT) with the NMBI.
