My research focus is in two parts, firstly to continue research in the theme of antenatal depression and the possible fetal origins of depression. A collaborative inter-disciplinary research group has been set up comprising The Department of Psychiatry in AMNCH (Tallaght) Hospital, the Coombe Women & Infants University Hospital and Trinity College Institute of Neuroscience. Professors Deirdre Murphy, Head of Department of Obstetrics (School of Medicine, TCD) will be the obstetric lead; and Professor Thomas Connor, Associate Professor of Neuroscience (TCIN) will provide the biochemical expertise and laboratory analysis.
The second arm of my research plan involves collaboration with Professor Thomas Frodl, clinical colleagues in AMNCH (Tallaght) Hospital and community psychiatric services to apply brain neuroimaging and neuroendocrine research tools to examine the effects of clinical intervention in populations of patients with affective disorders.
