Ohtli Award
In September 2011 Dr Ciaran Cosgrove was presented with the Mexican Government 'Ohtli' award. Originally bestowed for contributions made to the empowerment of Mexican-American communities in the United States, its character and remit have been extended.
It is now the highest honour presented to a civilian outside Mexico for "services rendered to the dissemination of Mexican culture abroad". 'Ohtli' is a Nahuatl word signifying 'path', and "he/she who opens pathways".
