Trinity Geographer elected to International Science Council
In a historic meeting in Paris on 4th July 2018, the International Council for Science (ICSU) and the International Social Science Council (ISSC) merged to form the International Science Council (ISC), a unique global non-governmental scientific organisation representing both the natural and social sciences. The ISC is the largest global science organisation of its type, bringing together 40 international scientific Unions and Associations and over 140 national and regional scientific organisations including Academies and Research Councils. The goal of the Council is to advance science as a global public good, ensuring scientific knowledge, data and expertise is universally accessible and its benefits universally shared.
Our very own Chair of Geography, Environment and Society, Professor Anna Davies, FTCD MRIA, was elected as an ordinary member of the first Governing Board of the ISC on July 4th. This is a fantastic achievement for Professor Davies, made even more impressive by the competition for places – there were 54 nominated candidates and only ten places available. Her term of office runs from 2018-2021.
