There were nine representatives from the School of Engineering announced as recipients of 2017/2018 Trinity Sports Scholarships.

Philip Cripwell (Fencing), Jenny Long (Hockey) and Michael Courtney (Rugby) were all representing the Mechanical Engineering discipline.
They were joined by Erica Markey, Rory Nichols (both Hockey), James Hickey, Rory Clarke, Rowan Osborne and Seb Fromm (Rugby).
Speaking prior to the awards night, Jenny commented: “My participation in the sports scholarship program over the last four years has enhanced both my sporting and academic capabilities. It has really given me the opportunity to embrace college life while successfully balancing my sporting and academic careers. The scholarship offers S&C coaching, nutritional advice, physiological testing and above all else a support system which has been invaluable over the last few years.”

That opinion was echoed by Rory: “This scholarship is a privilege to receive. It plays an enormous role being able to continue my passion of playing rugby competitively while in college.”
“I can now ensure that I am maintaining a healthy and balanced lifestyle which allows me to focus and commit fully to my rugby and academics. I am very thankful for this and am looking forward to the remainder of the season with DUFC.”

The college awarded 63 scholarships this year, all of whom were unveiled at a celebration in the university on 27th November. Business, Economics and Social Studies (BESS) had the largest representation with 14 of the scholars.

Additional information: Trinity Sport’s scholarship programme for 2017/2018 comprises 63 male and female student athletes representing 18 different sports. Among the sports included are taekwondo, Gaelic football, basketball, rugby, sailing and hockey.
