PhD candidate Caroline Lloyd (supervised by Dr Conor Mc Guckin) was commissioned to write an accessible book, that's research based, on grief for people who support the bereaved and also for the bereaved themselves by Jessica Kingsley.
It explains the history of grief theory and why people still mistakenly think certain things such as 'you will get over it' and explains modern thinking. Caroline has a chapter on what to say (and not to say) to the bereaved, another on complicated grief, why the death of a child is different and how the internet is affecting the bereaved and a whole lot more. It also has easy to understand diagrams, pictures and a list of reputable organisations for further information.
It has been endorsed by Dr Aoife Lynam (a recent PhD graduate from School of Education), Tracey Bleakley who is the CEO of Hospice UK and Dr Dayes who is a counselling psychologist but also the main researcher on the Continuing Bonds project in the UK.
The book is available from Amazon (delivery to Ireland) and other bookstores in the UK, USA, Canada and Australia.
