TCD International Research Collaboration on 3-year Canadian research project

Professor Colette Murphy from School of Education is Collaborator on the Canadian research project: Supporting learner-centered pedagogy and dialogic teaching through coteaching. The Principal Investigator (PI) of the project is Dr Carol Rees, from Thompson Rivers University (TRU), and the work is funded from 2019-2022 by the Social Sciences and Humanities Re-search Council of Canada.

Colette spent two weeks working on the project with Dr Rees and co-investigator Professor Wolff-Michael Roth, which included interactive presentations on Vygotsky and coteaching, and a 2-day workshop. The workshop was the launch of the three-year SSHRC-funded project led by Dr. Carol Rees (TRU, EDSW) with co-applicant Dr. Wolff-Michael Roth (University of Victoria) and collaborator Dr. Colette Murphy (Trinity College Dublin).

The project focuses on professional learning of learner-centred pedagogy through co-teaching. It aims to study how teacher candidates and classroom teachers can coteach together in classrooms to support learner-centred pedagogy. Eight teacher candidates from TRU, two Master's students and four teachers from SD #73 attended the workshop along with ten TRU faculty.
