Association for Educational Assessment
Professor Damian Murchan presented a paper on "Big Data" at the 2018 annual Meeting of the Association for Educational Assessment – Europe (AEA-Europe) in Arnhem. The paper, authored with Norwegian colleague Fazilat Siddiq, was titled: Regulatory and Ethical Implications of using Log file Data. Murchan and Siddiq called for greater attention to issues of ethics in emerging digital assessment and learning analytics systems. They noted that the increasing technical advances in analysis of students' e-assessment data is not matched by adequate safeguards in relation to privacy and consent. They urged the assessment and learning analytics communities to avoid gradual public mistrust in relation to log file data.
The annual meeting of AEA-Europe will be held in Dublin in 2020, co-hosted by Trinity College and the Educational Research Centre, Drumcondra.
