Message from Director of Research

The Covid-19 crisis is one of the greatest challenges we have faced in recent times. COVID-19 has impacted heavily on education systems world-wide. Experts around the world have rallied to the cause. Researchers at the School of Education have contributed to this global effort in a range of ways as you can see here.

Since the onset of the pandemic, researchers in the School have developed resources for parents and schools, produced a series of webinars on supporting home learning, contributed to discussions in the media about the impact of the crisis and how best to support learners at home. Our researchers have responded by pivoting their research projects to address key issues such as examining the experiences of parents, teachers, principals and vulnerable young people under COVID.

Our postgraduate research students had fabulous success hosting their annual research conference online with a range of innovative uses of technology to promote a lively and interactive research event. In the coming months, our researchers will continue to examine the experiences and effects of the pandemic on the education system and share this with the education community in Ireland and internationally to inform policy and practice in the wake of the COVID shutdown. Our website will continue to be updated with the details and outputs of our research relating to the pandemic:

We have modified our research processes so that we can continue to conduct our research in an ethically and methodologically sound manner. All researchers, staff and students, are continuing with their programmes of research. This research has been affected by COVID and influenced by COVID, yes, but it has not stopped. We continue to conduct research in the School which is recognised nationally and internationally for its excellence and which impacts upon and effects positive change in society, by bridging the gap between research, practice and policy.

If you would like any further information about the research on-going in the school or if you have any questions about our research projects or processes, please do not hesitate to contact me at:
