Introduction to Japanese
Language and Culture
This course teaches a basic ‘survival’ repertoire
of spoken Japanese and introduces some
central aspects of Japanese culture, including
the writing system. As much use as possible is
made of authentic materials.

Post-Beginners Japanese
Continuing from the introduction to Japanese
language and culture, this course is designed to
extend learners’ ‘survival’ repertoire of spoken
Japanese and their knowledge of the Japanese
writing system (there is regular practice in
character composition and recognition). Aspects
of the cultural background are also dealt with.

This course is offered to learners who have
successfully completed post-beginners
Japanese. It will take place only if there are
sufficient enrolments to make it viable.
