Monitoring change in Trinity College
The charts and tables below provide an example of the kind of data WiSER collects as part of our commitment to monitoring and reporting on the position of women in science, engineering & technology in Trinity College.
From the charts we can see a decrease in the numbers of women apppearing at Research Fellow level, and from this point on the gap continues to grow steadily the further up the academic ladder one looks, becoming most pronounced at Full Professor level.
While it occurs in faculties, the pattern is most prominent in the Faculty of Engineering, Maths & Science (FEMS). In FEMS, women are 43% of Reserach Fellow and Assistants, but only 9% of Professors.
The issue is one of retention and advancement; the career progression path for women is not following the same pattern as for their male colleagues, and this is one of the key concerns of WiSER.
