WiSER Showcase Event
Wednesday 7 December saw staff from across college and the extended WiSER network turn out in force to attend the WiSER Showcase event. The showcase highlighted the array of new programmes and events scheduled by WiSER for 2012. These include seminars, workshops, Spring Board, Share you Success, WiSER Buddy and Champion programmes. The event showcased how WiSER addresses the under representation of women in academic positions in college through the model of ‘tinkering, tailoring and transforming
The story board format of the evening allowed attendees to mingle and discuss the model and WiSER’s 2012 programme in a lively environment. Many used the showcase as a chance to reconnect with colleagues and to hear from the Dean of Engineering, Maths and Science, Prof. Clive Williams, on how college is supporting WiSER’s goal of developing sustainable practices to ensure both women and men are given equal opportunity to excel in their chosen fields. The Dean, in an entertaining speech, focused on the importance and challenges involved in working towards a greater gender balance in leadership roles in college. WiSER’s Director, Caroline Roughneen, followed on to explain WiSER’s role and the benefits of fostering a supportive environment in college which meets the needs of all who work within it.
