4th October TCD Researchers in the news: New ways of detecting invading viruses
Dr. Leonie Unterholzner, Dr. Sinead Keating and Marcin Baran were the lead researchers on the project, led by Professor Andrew Bowie, which has discovered a new way that the immune system is alerted to invading viruses. Click here to read the Irish Times article on their research.

16th June TCD's Rachel Evans is youngest finalist in prestigious L'Oreal-UNESCO For Women in Science Awards
Congratulations to Dr. Rachel Evans, Lecturer in the School of Chemistry, on being a finalist in this highly prestigious award, designed to promote the careers of women in science and to reward outstanding women scientists.

12th April Geneticist Prof. Mary-Claire King Awarded TCD Dawson Prize in Genetics
Leading geneticist, Prof. Mary-Claire King, who was the first to locate a gene associated with breast cancer, was last week awarded the TCD Dawson Prize in Genetics 2010.

Lecture on Wednesday 7th April, 7pm World-renowned geneticist Prof. Mary-Claire King
The Smurfit Insititute of Genetics, in association with WITS Ireland is hosting a public talk by Professor Mary-Claire King of the University of Washington School of Medicine, Seattle. Professor King will speak on the topic of “Genetics and Breast Cancer – progress in personalised medicine”. She will also be awarded the Trinity College Dublin Dawson Prize in Genetics.

Lecture on Friday 19th March, 5pm "Women in Science: A historical perspective"
CRANN is hosting a lecture by renowned scientist Professor Petra Rudolf, of the Zernike Institute for Advanced Materials, University of Groningen, Netherlands. Prof. Rudolf will discuss important contributions of women scientists of the past, why there are still so few women researchers today, whether men and women work differently in science, as well as issues concerning family and work and how these affect scientists.
Details: Friday 19th March at 5 pm, Schrödinger Lecture Theatre, Fitzgerald Building. All are welcome.

5th March International Women's Week 2010 - 8th - 12th March
WiSER will be supporting the launch of International Women’s Week at a coffee morning in aid of Haiti hosted by the Mature Student Office & Trinity Access Programme. We look forward to seeing you there.

Announcement Mentoring for Early Career Academics launches College-wide
The successful pilot WiSER Mentoring Programme run in 2008-9 is now the basis of a new College-wide Early Career Mentoring Initiative for Academic Staff. WiSER will continue to support this programme, which is run by the Staff Development Unit.
