WiSER Event Christmas Coffee to Celebrate Honorary Degrees
At the Christmas Coffee organised by WiSER on Friday, 12th December, Dame Jocelyn Bell Burnell spoke about her experiences as a leading scientist in her field. More than 50 people attended and it was great to see so many colleagues coming to celebrate the conferral by College of honorary degrees on Dame Ann Dowling (Mechanical Engineering) and Dame Jocelyn Bell Burnell (Astrophysics). Science Week Event Lab coats and lace
This event, organised by WITS in association with the National Botanic Gardens on Saturday, 15th November, celebrated the lives and legacies of some inspiring Irish women scientists and pioneers. Six short talks, which include botanists and early geologists, the fabulous Boole sisters, some rebel medical doctors, and a chemist who was, literally, the stuff of diamonds.

European Publication Mapping the maze: Getting more women to the top in research
The Women in Research Decision Making (WIRDEM) expert group have produced a report identifying and reviewing positive actions and gender equality measures at institutional and national level which aim to promote women into senior positions in public research. 26th February 2008 WiTS Ireland Launches "Re-Enter" Programme
The new Re-Enter Programme run by WiTS in conjunction with the North-South body InterTrade Ireland and the Open University of Ireland has been launched by the Minister for Enterprise Trade and Employment, Mr. Micheál Martin T.D. Re-Enter is an all-Island pilot programme which aims to re-skill and re-train experienced women scientists, engineers and technologists who want to return to work after a career break of a year or more. 12th February 2008 EC Report on Gender Equality
The European Commission recently released its 5th Annual Report on Gender Equality. The report details women's involvement in the workforce, and shows that though increasing numbers of women are working, the gender pay gap remains unchanged at 15%.

7th February 2008 New statistics on women employed in science and technology
Eurostat, the Statistical Office of the European Communities, recently published new statistics on women employed in science and technology. Read the full document here.
