What you can do for women in SET

If you are a Head of Unit or HR representative:

  • Ensure that information about criteria for advancement is communicated transparently and explicitly to all staff
  • Maintain an open attitude to requests from women and men for flexible working arrangements
  • Assign responsibilities to women which are visible, prestigious, and/or central to current College issues
  • Actively encourage women to apply for promotion and other opportunities for advancement
  • Monitor and report on appointment and promotion processes within the Department with regard to gender
  • Ensure that women and men have the same opportunities and encouragement to participate in public activities relating to the Department and its work, such as giving public talks, participating in conferences, and media or other events
  • Ensure that criteria and policies relating to sabbatical leave and career breaks are transparent and made available to all staff
