Activities

Art

Last years activities included making kites, masks, crepe paper flowers and papier mache models. The most enjoyable part of doing art for the volunteers is watching creativity come alive in the children. The most enjoyable part for the children is the satisfaction of a completed craft and experiencing the joys of putting paint to paper. This year we hope to introduce Art Projects as opposed to just crafts, hopefully with an educational basis through themes such as "Marine life" and "The Environment" themes. These projects will cover a wide spectrum of medium and method, and include 2D and 3D pieces and hopefully with a group effort a final group master piece. The projects will be carried out over a number of weeks with a proposed exhibition at the end of the year where work will be displayed. There is also the possibility of a knitting club where those who wish to can be taught knitting from the first steps.

Music and Drama

Last year Drama conSisted of an attempt at making a film and though it was an unsuccessful endeavour we certainly enjoyed ourselves trying. This year we hope to expand on the performance aspect of Drama with the introduction of Music. This will include singing in groups and individually, and dramatic performances such as recitation of poetry and acting from play excerpts. This was decided on the basis of providing an outlet for what seemed to be a very musically orientated group, there were always singing and dancing. We'll play to a Childs strengths and talents, drawing on what they enjoy and what they're good at in order to build confidence. We hope to work on individual and group performances and showcase at the end of the year.

Sport

Sport in VTP is based on team sports, mostly team sport as football is a favourite of the children. This year we hope to build on team spirit by having a sports day where the two centres can battle it out and a victor can emerge! Sports will include tag sports such as rugby and American football, old favourites like rounders, tug-a-war and British bulldog, and plenty of other games.

Any questions/timetabling issues for Activities should be direceted to Carolan O'Higgins our activities co-ordinator. ohiggic@tcd.ie, or contact us through the site.
