Authentication / Verification of Award Parchment
An original award parchment is a valuable document that cannot be re-issued if misplaced or destroyed – it should remain in the safe possession of the graduate at all times.
If required, a graduate may seek to have a copy of their parchment(s) authenticated upon presentation to the Student and Graduate Records Office.
Issue of Duplicate Parchment
A duplicate parchment may be issued provided applicants declare in writing that to the best of their belief their original certificate has been destroyed, or has been lost for more than 12 months, or (the award having been made in absentia) did not reach them through the post; and that if the original certificate is found they will return the duplicate to the Student and Graduate Records Office. All duplicate parchments issued are marked ‘Duplicate’.
Fee for duplicate parchment:
- Degree parchments: a fee of €116 is charged
- All other parchments: a fee of €20 is charged
Applicants may pay the fee by cheque (made payable to TCD No.1 account) or by credit / laser card.
Application
Application for a duplicate parchmentshould be made by emailing the Student and Graduate Records Office. Requests by email should detail the following:
- Full name (in which the award was made)
- Date of birth
- All Award(s) obtained from University of Dublin, Trinity College (eg, B.A., Ph.D., PG Dip.)
- Year(s) award(s) made
- Home address (as currently recorded by the University)
- Previous address (if different from current home address (for identification purposes)
- Awards for which duplicate parchment is sought
The issue of duplicate parchments is subject to receipt of the fee in full.
Translation of Degree Parchment
All degree parchments are presented in Latin to candidates for degrees at Commencements. Upon request, the Student and Graduate Records Office will issue the English translation of a degree parchment specific to the alumnus. All translations issued by the Student and Graduate Records Office are certified and endorsed with an official University stamp.
Requests for translations should be made by emailing the Student and Graduate Records Office detailing the following:
- Full name (in which the award (to be) made)
- Date of birth
- Award(s) (to be) obtained from University of Dublin, Trinity College (eg, B.A., Ph.D., PG Dip.)
- Year(s) award(s) (to be) made
- Home address (as currently recorded by the University)
- Previous address (if different from current home address (for identification purposes)
- Award for which translation is sought
All other awards are presented in English.
