Who is eligible to invigilate at TCD exams?

You must be a registered TCD postgraduate student to invigilate.

I’ve invigilated at TCD exams before – do I need to re-register and provide another reference?

Yes, you need to re-register for the new academic year, but you do not need to provide another reference.

Does everyone who applies become an Invigilator?

Yes, provided a satisfactory supervisor reference is received by the Examinations Office with your application form before the deadline (4.30pm Monday 28 January 2013).

What sort of reference is needed?

A general character reference confirming your suitability to act as a College invigilator is required. This reference should include confirmation of your reliability, punctuality etc.

When will I hear if my application has been successful?

Your application should be successful provided your reference is satisfactory and your application form is complete within the deadline (4.30pm Monday 28 January 2013). Monday 4 February 2013 - email circulation to confirm receipt of application and successful outcome.

Is there on-the-job training?

Yes, provided your application is successful you will be invited to attend an Invigilator’s Meeting. You must attend this meeting in person to receive instructions for your invigilation duties and to collect your allocations.

When will I begin invigilating?

New invigilators will commence invigilation duties at the annual examination session in April/May.

When are the Annual Examinations in 2012?

The 2013 Annual Examinations will run from Monday 29 April to Friday 24 May inclusive. There will be examinations on Saturdays and late evenings during these dates.

How many sessions will I be assigned?

Sessions are shared out equally between all registered invigilators. An examination session lasts from 60 minutes (1 hour) to 210 minutes (3.5 hours).

Is it possible to get extra sessions during the examination periods?

Yes. Many invigilators cancel or don’t show and their allocations are re­distributed in advance of the examination session.

What is the rate of pay for Invigilation?

The rates of pay are revised annually by the Treasurer’s Office and will be confirmed at the Invigilator’s Meeting.

How am I paid?

You will be paid directly into your Irish bank account. Work done in one month will be paid on the last working day of the following month. It is not possible to be paid by cheque or into a foreign bank account.

What is a PPS number?

Your Personal Public Number (PPS) is a unique identifier for use in any transactions you may have with public bodies or persons authorised by those bodies to act on their behalf.

How do I get a PPS number ?
