Mathematician George Salmon (1819-1904)George Salmon (1819-1904), whose textbooks shaped mathematics teaching and research in Europe for 50 years, was a mathematician, theologian and, for 16 years, the Provost of Trinity College. One of the founding figures of modern statistical economics was another TCD mathematician, Francis Ysidro Edgeworth (1845-1926).
Today, TCD mathematicians work on mathematical topics and problems ranging from string theory and quantum field theory to bioinformatics.
