Background to the Post:

Trinity College Dublin and University College Dublin recently received a major award from the MacArthur Foundation in the United States to establish a new Masters degree in Development Practice to begin 2010. The two universities would now like to recruit a MacArthur Lecturer in Development Practice to teach on this programme and to contribute to its administration.

The TCD-UCD MacArthur Masters in Development Practice is part of a global network of universities, with a Secretariat at Columbia University in the United States (http://mdp.ei.columbia.edu/). The goal is to train interdisciplinary development practitioners of the future across the core areas of natural sciences/environment, social science and economics, health and management. There will be a strong emphasis on the development of both analytical and applied skills in the programme and field-training and project work. TCD and UCD now seek to recruit an outstanding candidate for a fixed-term three year lectureship to teach on this programme. Developing the curriculum and helping to coordinate the delivery of the programme will also be important duties of the post-holder. Particular areas of interest include urban, regional and rural planning and environmental-health-poverty interactions with a regional focus on Sub-Saharan Africa, although applicants with other backgrounds are also very welcome. Post-holders will be expected to vigourously pursue their research career through continued publication and application for major external research grants. They will also be expected to engage in post-graduate research supervision and other duties as designated by the Course Director, Head of Discipline, Head of School and Dean of the Faculty.

This post will be tenable from 1st July, 2010.
